Frequently Asked Questions

Do you offer in-person therapy?

Currently, Begin Therapy provides telehealth services throughout Ohio.

What are your hours of operation? When can I schedule appointments with you?

Begin Therapy offers a range of availability for clients with various scheduling concerns, including afternoon and evening appointments, as well as some weekend hours.

Do you accept insurance?

Begin Therapy is a private-pay practice. For clients who wish to use insurance benefits, I also offer appointments through the Grow Therapy platform for select insurance plans.

If you're unsure which option is the best fit, email me, I'm happy to help you determine the most appropriate scheduling pathway.

Should I schedule through Begin Therapy or Grow Therapy?

If you plan to pay privately, schedule directly through Begin Therapy (a link to schedule a complimentary 15-minute consultation call can be found here).

If you'd like to use insurance, please reach out before scheduling. I'll help you determine the most appropriate way to access care and, if applicable, provide the appropriate scheduling link.

Why is Begin Therapy a private-pay practice?

Begin Therapy was designed as a private-pay practice because this model allows for greater flexibility in treatment planning, increased privacy, and more time focused on client care rather than insurance requirements.

For individuals who wish to use insurance benefits, I also maintain appointments through Grow Therapy with select insurance plans when available.

If you have out-of-network benefits, I'm happy to provide a superbill that you can submit for possible reimbursement.

What are your fees?

Begin Therapy offers diagnostic intake sessions for new clients at $160, and follow-up appointments for established clients at $140. All sessions/appointments are scheduled for a 55-minute duration.

Additionally, complimentary 15-minute consultation appointments can be scheduled to determine therapeutic fit.

What if I can't afford your fee?

Begin Therapy reserves a limited number of reduced-fee appointments for individuals experiencing financial hardship.

If the standard fee would prevent you from accessing therapy, you're welcome to request consideration for one of these limited openings.

Reduced-fee appointments are offered based on current availability and are not guaranteed.

Do you provide superbills?

Yes. Upon request, I can provide a superbill that you may submit to your insurance company for possible out-of-network reimbursement.

Do you accept HSA/FSA cards?

Yes!

How long does therapy take? How many appointments will I need to schedule with you?

Therapy looks different for everyone. Some clients seek support for a specific concern and meet for a relatively short period of time, while others choose to engage in longer-term therapy focused on deeper patterns, personal growth, or ongoing life challenges. Together, we'll regularly evaluate your goals and determine what feels most helpful for you.

Who do you work with?

Begin Therapy offers services to adults 18 and older. Additional information is available on the Meet Siobhan page, where clinical areas of focus (therapeutic specialties) are identified.

What concerns do you commonly help clients address?

Trauma, grief, anxiety, life transitions, identity development, relationship concerns, meaning-making, etc. More detail is provided on the Meet Siobhan page, where clinical areas of focus (therapeutic specialties) are identified.

Do you provide couples or family therapy?

At this time, Begin Therapy's clinical focus is on treating individual clients.

What happens after I contact you?

We can schedule a complimentary 15-minute consultation, which gives us an opportunity to ask questions and determine whether we're a good fit for working together. If we decide to move forward, we'll schedule your intake appointment and I'll send you the necessary paperwork before our first session.

How often do clients typically attend therapy?

Depending on your preference, we can schedule weekly, biweekly, or monthly appointments.

Do you prescribe medication?

No. I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor, and do not have the authority to prescribe medications.

Are there specific modalities you use in your therapy practice?

While I consider myself an eclectic therapist, I do pull regularly from the following treatment modalities:

Person-centered (Rogerian)

I believe the therapeutic relationship is the foundation for healing. My goal is to create a supportive, collaborative, and nonjudgmental environment where clients feel safe exploring their experiences and discovering their own capacity for growth.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
How we think, how we feel, and how we act are all interconnected. I help clients identify and challenge unhelpful thought patterns and deeply held beliefs that contribute to emotional distress and unwanted behaviors.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)
By strengthening the connection between mind and body, I help clients build awareness of their emotional experiences and develop practical skills for navigating them. The practice of mindfulness (being fully present in the current moment) helps clients respond to life's challenges with greater resilience and intention.

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)
I help clients clarify their personal values and develop a more flexible relationship with difficult thoughts and emotions, allowing them to make choices that align with the life they want to build.

Psychoeducation
I regularly incorporate research and education about mental health, trauma, and the nervous system to help clients understand their experiences, reduce self-blame, and feel empowered in their healing process.

Who tends to be a good fit for working with you? What types of clients do you especially enjoy working with?

I work especially well with adults who have spent much of their lives taking care of others, minimizing their own needs, or simply trying to survive difficult circumstances. Many of my clients struggle with anxiety, depression, low self-worth, trauma, grief, family conflict, or major life transitions, and often feel exhausted by the pressure to "hold it all together."

I enjoy helping people make sense of patterns that once helped them survive but may no longer serve them. Together, we work to reduce shame, build self-compassion, strengthen boundaries, and develop practical skills for managing emotions and relationships. My goal is to help clients reconnect with their strengths, clarify what truly matters to them, and create lives that feel more authentic and fulfilling.

I also work well with individuals who appreciate understanding the "why" behind their experiences. I often incorporate psychoeducation about trauma, anxiety, depression, and the mind-body connection to help normalize symptoms and empower clients with knowledge alongside practical tools for change.

Are there concerns you don't treat?

While I work with a broad range of mental health concerns, I am best suited for clients who are appropriate for outpatient teletherapy and able to engage in a collaborative therapeutic process. Individuals experiencing active suicidal or homicidal intent, unmanaged psychosis, severe substance dependence requiring detoxification, or other conditions requiring intensive crisis intervention or a higher level of care may be better served by specialized providers or more comprehensive treatment settings.

In addition, clients seeking highly specialized treatment for conditions such as severe eating disorders, complex bipolar presentations requiring intensive mood management, or court-mandated evaluations may benefit from working with clinicians whose practice is specifically focused in those areas. My priority is ensuring that every client receives the level and type of care that best meets their needs.
